ich habe mir das Buch gekauft, da ich als fortgeschrittener Hobbykünstler bei Farben noch immer häufiger an meine Grenzen stoße. Gerade wenn es darum geht, Dinge zu malen, bei denen man nicht jede Farbe genau wie auf den Referenzen wiedergegeben möchte.Das Cover hat mich nicht angesprochen und als ich rein gesehen habe war ich etwas abgeneigt von den vielen Bildern und den relativ kurzen Textpassagen.Aber nachdem ich mich etwas reingelesen habe, wurde mir klar, dass das geschriebene absolut ausreicht und die Bilder mit der Theorie Hand in Hand gehen. Man bekommt wertvolle Tipps die man sofort umsetzen kann und Anreize wie man seine nächsten Werke verbessern kann.Ich bin sehr zufrieden mit dem Kauf und kann es jeden nur ans Herz legen. Vor allem eigenet sich das Buch auch gut als Nachschlagewerk, wenn man gerade bei einem Bild auf Probleme stößt oder nicht weiter weiß.Zudem ist der Preis für 17€ wirklich mehr als Fair!
Was für ein Hammer-Buch war so mein erster Endruck, als ich es eben in Händen hielt.Wer sich schon mal an Zeichnen, Malen oder Composings gemacht hat, weiß, wie teilweise schwer es ist, das richtige Licht an die richtige Stelle zu setzen oder Farben zu erzeugen, die realistisch aussehen.In diesem fast 230 Seiten starken Werk wird sehr viel davon erkärt: Beginnend bei alten Meistern, bis zu heutigen Computergrafiken spannt sich der Bogen, viel Licht- und Farbtheorie und jede Menge Praxisbeispiele zeigen, wie sich die Beleuchtung zwischen einer Kerze, einem Feuer oder einem Computermonitor unterscheidet, wie räumliche Wirkung entsteht oder atmosphärische Wirkungen wie Dunst oder Sonnenlicht gemalt werden kann. Daß dies alles bei der Fotografie genauso weiter hilft, wie am Zeichentisch oder im Photoshop ist klar - und so werden die Prinzipien auch allgemein für Licht und Farbe vermittelt - egal ob klassischer oder digital Künstler. Abgerundet wird das Ganze durch ein umfangreiches Glossar und Pigmentinformationen der Farben und eine Bücherliste mit weiterführenden Werken.Wer sich dafür interessiert erhält für einen wirklich mehr als angemessenen Preis ein rundum gelungenes, toll bebildertes und sehr gut gemachtes Werk, daß es in sich hat.Für Zeichner, digital-Artists und Maler ein must-have - einzig der englischen Sprache sollten sie mächtig sein.
This is such a great book. It is brimming with content without repeating itself and is written in a clear and engaging style that makes it a joy to read. I devoured it within a couple of days and will certainly come back to it and use it as a reference in the future.The author explains the science of light and colours and the various effects, as well as the science of perception and the human eye – which not only pleases the scientist in me, but also helps remembering things and applying them to a wide range of scenarios. Here and there, the author adds hints about the actual painting process without getting hung up too much about specifics – just enough to be helpful or interesting even if you work with a different medium.I also appreciate how varied the author's oeuvre is. He paints and draws a variety of subjects, from scientific illustrations, fantastic story illustrations, portraits, plein-air studies of landscapes and architecture, and with several different mediums as well, and seeing everything he talks about applied to different contexts really adds a lot. And although himself a traditional painter, he's also got an interest in digital art and other technologies, so you really get the impression of someone exploring the topics at hand from all angles.This book is not a beginner's book, but if you have gotten the basics of getting lines and paint on paper (or colourful pixels on the screen), I cannot recommend this book enough.
Kaufte dieses Buch, da es in diversen internetquellen als Standardwerk für die Themen Farbe und Licht erwähnt wird. Es enthält alle wichtigen Informationen zum Verständis dieser, sowie viele schöne Illustrationen. Ich kann dieses Buch deshalb auch weiterempfehlen, vor allem zu diesem Preis. Tip: Um das Prinzip von Licht und Farbe für das Malen zu verstehen, kann ich sonst noch alte wissenschaftsbücher für Kinder empfehlen!

Es ist ein Glück, dass wir heute so viele Farben zur Verfügung haben, um ihnen jetzt mit diesem Buch einen Sinn zu geben.Das Buch spricht über Farbe in einem sehr praktischen Sinne, so wie man sie im Leben sehen würde. Die Lektionen sind Beobachtungen von Licht und Farben aus James Gurney's jahrelanger malerischer Erfahrung. Er bringt seine Punkte mit seinen eigenen schönen Bildern als Beispiele und erklärt deutlich, warum und wie er Farben verwendet. Es erstaunt mich die Menge an Arbeit, die James Gurney im Laufe der Jahre geschaffen hat, und dieses Buch ist voll von ihnen, von seinen Pleinair- bis Dinopedia-Gemälden. Fantastisch!!!
Nicht umsonst genießt dieses Buch den Ruf eines Basiswerkes. Bisher fand ich zu allen Fragen die ich bezüglich Licht und Farbe hatte hier eine Antwort. Für Anfänger und Fortgeschrittene eine uneingeschränkte Kaufempfehlung.
